It’s Bike & Roll to School Day!

Today is the day! Families, school officials and community leaders across the United States will strap on helmets and lace up shoes today to participate in the 13th annual National Bike & Roll to School Day, a celebration highlighting the importance of safe, active transportation to school and promoting accessible spaces for all active trips.

To date, more than 1,800 Bike & Roll to School Day events have been registered in 42 states and Washington, D.C. And the total number of events is expected to grow as celebrations continue throughout May, which is National Bike Month.

If you haven’t already, register your event today to join the national count!

Send us your Bike and Roll to School Day photos! We love to show off all the great community participation for this special event, so please email your 2024 Bike and Roll to School Day images to info@walkbiketoschool.org. By emailing us your photos, you agree that we can use the photos to promote future events, to include in reports, and for other positive uses promoting safe, active routes for youth. We would especially appreciate photos of children and adults biking and rolling wearing helmets. Please let us know the city and state of the event in your photos.

Youth Take the Lead

Young people in the U.S. and across the globe are playing an important role in shaping the future transportation system. Two Vision Zero for Youth resources, created in a collaboration by youth activists and transportation researchers, provide a framework and recommendations for meaningfully engaging youth to advance safer streets for all. www.visionzeroforyouth.org/take-action/engaging-youth

E-Bike Safety

E-bikes are growing in popularity as an option for older students to ride to school. Bike & Roll to School Day organizers at middle and high schools may be seeing more and more e-bikes during events or throughout the year. See our list of resources to learn more about safety recommendations for e-bike riders.
